Itty Bitty Teeny Tiny Wedding

The evening that Ryan proposed to me, after devouring the tasty dinner he made and calling my family to share the news, I was hell bent on getting over to Barnes and Noble to purchase wedding magazines (i.e., Martha Stewart and Real Simple).  When I got to the section on budget the excitement died a little--just a little, and reality kicked in.  We collectively have only one parent to assist us in this celebration.  MERDE!

After looking at our budget it became clear that we would have to keep everything pretty small! Since Ryan and I are not religious people, we had to look to alternative places to get married and unfortunately it became evident that a court house wedding was structured for shotgun weddings only.  Growing increasingly frustrated, I turned to Facebook for one of my ever so charming rants.  It was there that a brilliant friend suggested the Nebraska State Capitol!  With our love for politics (not necessarily Nebraska politicians), the beautiful architecture of the Capitol and the low cost of $0, we were sold!  After visiting the Capitol we decided that the 14th Floor Memorial Chamber would be ideal because it is much more secluded and while we aren't particularly fond of the artwork--it is still a lovely room.

The most difficult part came when we had to decide what to do for a reception.  Since most reasonable venues in Lincoln can run between $1k-2k simply to rent it (which is two-thirds of our budget), we decided that our reception will be small and very intimate, at our home, immediate family and one best friend each from our youth.  The fact that we can't have all of our family and friends there is quite hard for us to swallow but we know that there will still be immense love and happiness for us!

For being a relatively non-traditional person, I rather like the idea that it will be so intimate.  We can truly enjoy the company of all of our guests, we won't be overwhelmed with running around ,decorating the morning of the wedding, etc. We can plan, shop sales, save and truly give those who are present with us on June 4th, one hell of a cocktail party!

I'm willing to bet by 7:00 I'm out of my wedding dress, running around in my pajamas with a glass of wine! Classy lady.

Now, if only I can get my brother to rock some super man pjs with me like the good old days!
CHEERS!
